Billionaires Avoid Taxes. The Rest of Us Absorb the Cost:
Prop 40 will reduce the power of California’s billionaires by requiring they pay a one-time 5% tax on their wealth. That money will protect health care for low-income Californians and fund education and food assistance — programs gutted by Trump’s “Big Ugly Bill.”
Prop 3
Protecting School & Health Care Funding:
Prop 3 permanently protects roughly $15 billion a year in school and health care funding by extending an existing high-income tax. We need to ensure funding that already exists for our kids and our health cannot be clawed back.
Why now?
This fight is about who holds power in California. In a democracy, the people decide our future, not 225 billionaires spending hundreds of millions of dollars to protect their fortunes. Vote Yes on 40 & 3 to put that power back where it belongs – in the hands of the people.
While our health care system and education funding gets gutted, California’s billionaires have grown $570.8 billion richer since Trump’s reelection. The revenue raised from Props 40 & 3 will make up what we’ve lost: funding the health care, schools, and food assistance Trump’s policies stripped away.
Vote No
Prop 41
Poison Pill Prop 41 would block new state taxes from being exempted from California’s spending cap and impose costly new audit requirements on programs funded by new or increased special taxes. Because Prop 40’s billionaire tax is a special tax that is exempt from the spending cap, Prop 41 could overturn it.
Prop 42
Poison Pill Prop 42 would permanently ban California from taxing ownership of financial assets, business interests, and other personal property. It would block the billionaire wealth tax and protect immense fortunes from taxation, leaving working families and ordinary taxpayers to pick up the tab for public goods and services.
Why Reject 41 and 42?
Propositions 41 and 42 are billionaire-funded “poison pill” measures specifically designed to give billionaires a backdoor way to defeat Proposition 40, even if Californians vote to approve it. Both measures contain provisions under which Proposition 40 can be voided if either receives more “yes” votes, allowing seemingly innocuous initiatives about tax audits, spending limits, and personal property to override the billionaire tax. Don’t fall for it.
